Reverend Kinard-Thompson, Esq.
Sylvia Kinard-Thompson, Esq. grew up in Brooklyn, New York and graduated with a Regents Diploma from Erasmus Hall High School. She holds a B.A. in Economics from Seton Hall University and a Juris Doctorate from New York Law School. She is admitted to the Bar in New York State and Federal District Court. She did additional studies at New York Theological Seminary and studied screenwriting and filmmaking at New York University.
Ms. Kinard-Thompson has had a distinguished career in both the private and public sector as an attorney. She has served as an Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Counsel for the NYS Division of Housing and Community Development and as a Senior Legislative Attorney for the New York City Council. She also serves as Director of Women’s Ministries at Brown Memorial Baptist Church.
Since 2004, Ms. Kinard-Thompson has worked at Medgar Evers College in increasing areas of responsibility. She began at Medgar Evers College as its Director of Film, Television and Radio and recently increased her responsibilities to serve as Director, Communications, Media Relations and Strategic Planning, where her portfolio includes the management of the Medgar Evers College Education Foundation.
Ms. Kinard-Thompson’s vocational interests in the entertainment industry includes stints as the Executive Director of the New York Production Alliance and as a Vice President of New York Women in Film and Television. Ms. Kinard-Thompson is a principal in Imani Entertainment, a family owned company that produces family and children’s film and television programming. As a writer, her work has won awards at the Hampton’s International Film Festival, Jamaica Arts Festival, and the African American Women in Cinema Film Festival.
